The San Juan County Arts Council is recognizing May as Arts Education Month in Washington State, as proclaimed by Governor Chris Gregoire.

Arts Education Month focuses on the role arts in a complete and balanced education and helps schools and communities provide learning practices and expression through art.

Art education teaches creative problem-solving, team building, self-accomplishment, self-esteem, free expression and cultural awareness.

These attributes help different types of young people learn and builds better relationships with their teachers.
