If you could save a life, would you?

Each day, patients in our local hospitals battle cancer and leukemia, need surgeries, and suffer traumatic injuries which require blood transfusions. With less than an hour of your time, your one blood donation can help up to three patients.

Give the gift of life and donate at the San Juan Island Community Blood Drive, June 2, noon to 6 p.m., Mullis Community Senior Center, 589 Nash St.

The drive is sponsored by the San Juan Island Lions Club. For information, contact Curt VanHyning at curtvanhyning@gmail.com

Five Easy Steps to Blood Donation
— Eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of fluids at least four hours prior to donating.

— Complete a health history questionnaire and screening interview.

— Undergo a brief health check of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and iron level.

— Relax while one unit (about one pint) of blood is collected.

— Enjoy refreshments while remaining seated for about 10 minutes.
