An Orcas High School junior broke his neck in a snowboarding accident at the Orcas Island Golf Course, Dec. 17.

Jordan Griffin, 16, fell while going off a jump he and friends had built. He was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he underwent surgery on Dec. 18. His C-six vertebrate was removed and replaced with a titanium rod. He is reportedly paralyzed from the chest down.

Jordan's mother, Rachel, and his brother and sisters are in Seattle at his side. Jordan is expected to stay in the hospital for six weeks.

An account has been opened at Islanders Bank to help the family meet related expenses.
