Jean McLeod, who during her 20 years in Friday Harbor enjoyed waterfront living, sailing, gardening and doll making, has died.

She passed away suddenly Nov. 17 in Atlanta, Ga. due to lung failure. She and her husband, John, were building a home in Hayesville, N.C., where they moved to be closer to family.

A native of Carmangay, Alberta, Jean moved to Friday Harbor with her husband, John, in 1988 and lived here until 2007. Together, they built a home on the water and sailed throughout the Northwest, the Caribbean and Mexico.

Jean loved her home and her garden and much preferred to prepare wonderful meals rather than eat out. She became a very creative and accomplished cloth doll maker and had a wonderful flair for materials and colors.

In 2007, they moved to North Carolina to be closer to Atlanta family and friends.

Surviving Jean are her husband, John; brothers, Sonny and Morris; five nieces and nephews, three stepchildren, six stepgrandchildren, and many many friends.

She will be sorely missed.
