— “Pickett’s Irish,” 2 p.m., English Camp barracks. National Park historian Mike Vouri and folk musician Michael Cohen will take a closer look at the Irish in the antebellum U.S. Army in words and song. The program is free and open to the public. — Sports Physicals and Well Child Health Screening clinics are scheduled by the San Juan County Health Department, Friday Harbor. Conducted by county Health Officer Frank James, M.D., and public health staff. Immunizations needed for school entry will be available. A special fee of $40 or a current medical coupon is requested for the examination, and $15 for each immunization needed. A sliding fee scale is available. Call 378-4474 for an appointment.

— Welcoming dinner for the Concours d’Elegance weekend, benefiting the Medical Center Guild, in the San Juan Island Yacht Club. The evening will start at 5:30 p.m. with a no-host bar, hors d’oeuvres and piano music by David Bayley. Dinner at 7 p.m. includes a salad, your choice of salmon or prime rib with accompaniments, followed by San Juan Island blackberry cobbler. Sunday, Sept. 14
— Sports Car Club of the San Juan Islands’ 2008 Concours d’Elegance, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., San Juan Vineyards, 3136 Roche Harbor Road, Friday Harbor. Entry for the general public is free although a voluntary tax deductible contribution of $10 is encouraged. The Concours is a charitable event with the proceeds going to the Hospice of San Juan for training of volunteers.
Monday, Sept. 15 to Thursday, Sept. 18
— Friday Harbor Drama Group auditions for “Grease.” Casting is open to any student of high school age on San Juan Island. Eight male and seven female principal roles, as well as chorus. Singing and dancing abilities are required. Information sheet is available in the Friday Harbor High School office.
