FH Soroptimists walk the talk; group backs better family nutrition with $2,400 pledge

Soroptimists International of Friday Harbor is teaming up with the Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program to provide island families with fruits and vegetables this summer.

Administered by San Juan County Health and Community Services, the WIC program provides 30 families with $20 checks for fresh fruits and vegetables.

Soroptimists has pledged $2,400 to double WIC’s vouchers to $40 each, and to provide another 45 families with $40 vouchers as well, bringing the total number of families served to 75.

Vouchers will be available Saturday, July 13, and Saturday, July 27 at the Farmers’ Market, on the Brickworks plaza, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a WIC/Soroptimist booth.

The vouchers can be redeemed at the Farmer’s Market any Saturday this summer.
