New book delves into recent past

October 16, 2012 · Updated 2:57 PM

The history of the San Juan Islands does not end with the Pig War.

In fact, author JoAnn Roe has compiled a collection of lively stories from the San Juans’ more modern era into her latest book: The San Juan Islands: Into the 21st Century.

Roe will be at Griffin Bay Bookstore, Saturday, Oct. 20, 2-4 p.m., to chat about island history and the book.

A summer resident of Blakely Island, Roe is a recipient of numerous awards from the National Press Association and Society of American Travel Writers. Her latest work concentrates on the last 50-75 years of island history, based in part on  interviews with more than 100 islanders. For info, 378-5511.
