It’s a good bet celebrated Waldron Island poet Samuel Green will have more than a few insights to share during a one-day tour de force on San Juan Island. It begins Friday, at Spring Street International School.

Following the get together with Spring Street students, Green will host a workshop for adults, entitled “The Writer’s Notebook: How to Effectively Use a Notebook to Generate Poems,” 1:30-3:30 p.m., at San Juan Island Library.

The workshop is free, space is limited; registration required. To register, 378-2798.

Green’s poetry appears in hundreds of journals and among the best known of  his 10 collections is “The Grace of Necessity,” winner of the Washington State Book Award. He is a visiting professors at several regional colleges and has taught in hundreds of classrooms in Washington and Wyoming as part of a Poet-in-the-Schools program.

Green is also Washington state’s inaugural poet laureate, appointed by the governor in 2007, and winner of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry.

He will be at the library to read from his works, beginning at 7 p.m.

Green is co-editor, along with his wife, of Brooding Heron Press, an award-winning publisher known for its letter-pressed volumes of poetry. His contribution to the betterment of poetry in Friday Harbor is made possible by a 2012 Artist Trust Fellowship in Literature.
