Be smart — don't miss this year's Knowledge Bowl

Mark your calendar. Put on your thinking cap. The Knowledge Bowl is just around the corner.

Sponsored by the the San Juan Public Schools Foundation, the 18th annual Knowledge Bowl is Thursday, Feb. 2, at San Juan Community Theatre. The competition, a yearly clash between local civic groups and middle and high school students for bragging rights as best "brainiac" of the island, gets under way at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.and the Friday Harbor Jazz Band will perform as the evening's opening act, and at intermission as well.

The competition will be emceed this year by Brent Snow, general manager of Roche Harbor Resort and chairman of the San Juan Island School Board.

Through its main fundraising events, such as the Knowledge Bowl, Phone-a-Thon and Business Partnership Program in the school director, the Public Schools Foundation hopes to donate as much $70,000 to supplement the public schools' education needs.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children, and will be available at the theatre box office the night of the event.
