Dental care van comes to Friday Harbor

December 30, 2011 · Updated 1:29 PM

Local non-profit Fish for Teeth will sponsor its first-ever dental-care van event Jan. 13 and Jan. 14.

The two-day event will take place in the parking lot of the Marketplace in Friday Harbor. Staffed by volunteer dental care professionals, the Redmond-based Medical Teams International—Mobile Dental Program offers services from teeth cleaning to minor surgery.

Friday Harbor dentist Michael Horn, a Fish for Teeth board member, will volunteer dental service as well.

Fish for Teeth co-founder Matt Marinkovich said a two-day dental van visit offers the best way of “leveraging our efforts. Our goal is to have the van here once a quarter,” he said.

Fish for Teeth partners with local agencies, such as San Juan County public health, in offering services for underinsured and low-income patients.

Fish tacos will be available the first day of the event, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., as a fund raiser. For information or to volunteer  call, 378-4686.
