Carol Maas is the new office manager of the San Juan Islands Conservation District.

Maas has lived on San Juan Island for more than 18 years. She is a graphic designer and former program administrator of Homes for Islanders.

The conservation district has been promoting the conservation of natural resources in the San Juan Islands since 1947. The district provides natural resources education, information and technical assistance free of charge to island residents and organizations.

Services offered by the district include:

— Sustainable Farm and Forest Resource Planning.
— Sustainable Land Use Practices and Low Impact Development.
— Water Quality and Watershed Awareness.
— Native Plant Use and Wildlife Habitat Preservation.
— Natural Resources Education.

The district is funded in part by a parcel fee paid by property owners. The district is governed by an elected board of supervisors.
