Saturday, Oct. 2, at 4:30 p.m., the Friday Harbor branch of the Lutheran Church in the San Juans and St. David’s Episcopal Church will jointly conduct a Blessing of the Animals in honor of the Feast Day of St. Francis.

This service will be held at St. David’s Church on the corner of Park Street and Marguerite Place. The event is open to the public.

The churches request that all pets be on leash or in an appropriate carrier (jars will do for bugs). Animals should wear identification in case of an escape. Pets who sometimes become nervous or aggressive in a crowd, or who simply cannot make it to the service, may be represented by photos.

Bring a donation of dry dog or cat food for the Animal Protection Society and the Friday Harbor Food Bank. A potluck dinner for humans will follow in the church undercroft; bring a dish to share.

For more information, call the church office at 378-5360.
