Salmon Barbecue/Beach Bash Potluck Aug. 28 at Jackson's Beach
August 25, 2010 · Updated 3:51 PM
Salmon or roast pork. Dessert. Games and tournaments. And it's all free.
The Friday Harbor Port District continues its 60th anniversary celebration Aug. 28, noon to 4 p.m. with its Salmon Barbecue/Beach Bash Potluck.
The event is open to the public. Barbecued salmon, roast pork and dessert will be provided by the port district. Bring a favorite appetizer or side dish to share. And, of course, bring the family, perhaps a picnic basket, and chair. No alcohol.
The event will feature live music, volleyball tournaments, games, U.S. Coast Guard demonstrations, and canoe club and sailing team drills.
The port district's 60th anniversary celebration began April 27-28 with Spring Splash at Spring Street Landing, which featured visits by the tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain. The Friday Harbor Airport Fly-In and Open House attracted between 800 and 1,000 visitors July 24.
In a separate but related event, Jensen Shipyard celebrates its 100th anniversary with a public event Sept. 18. Jensen Shipyard's long-time president, the late Nourdine Jensen, was a member of the first Friday Harbor Port Commission.
