Register now for Small Business Class; course begins Sept. 27

Do you have an idea for a new business? Do you already own a small business? The Lopez Island Family Resource Center’s fall Small Business Class will be held on Mondays, 5:15-7:15 p.m., in the Lopez Island Library beginning Sept. 27. The class is open to all San Juan County residents.

The Lopez Island Family Resource Center’s fall Small Business Class will be held on Mondays, 5:15-7:15 p.m., in the Lopez Island Library beginning Sept. 27. The class is open to all San Juan County residents.

The course will cover the basics of how to start a small business as well as what it takes to keep a business sustainable.

The class will begin with personal finance, organization and self-evaluation, and apply these fundamentals toward developing a business plan. Additional topics include:

— Cost analysis.
— Exploring profitability.
— Feasibility analysis.
— Financial goals and tools for measurement.
— Market analysis.
— Marketing and operating plans.
— Recordkeeping and taxes.

Workbooks with hands-on exercises will be supplemented with discussions and the participation of business professionals invited to share their expertise and answer questions. Graduates of the course will have opportunities to participate in other financial literacy and support services offered by the Lopez Island Family Resource Center.
