Edward Ranck-Copher joined Boundary Water, Inc. of Friday Harbor as principal surveyor in July.

A professional land surveyor for 20 years, Ranck-Copher brings to Boundary Water more than a decade of experience in managing survey teams, as well as a professional background that includes a wide range of expertise.

Dan Drahn, principal owner of Boundary Water, formerly known as MPD, said by bringing Ranck-Copher on board the company can strengthen the services it now offers, such engineering, project planning and design, land surveys and mapping, and look to expand into new products and markets.

“We’re excited about having Edward with us,” Drahn said. “He comes with a broad professional background and we need that kind of expertise in a principal surveyor. And his mapping skills, well, they’re better than mine.”

Prior to relocating to San Juan Island, Ranck-Copher, 40, worked for an engineering firm in the Spokane area, where he played a lead role in producing surveys, maps and designs for the construction of an assortment of large buildings on the campus of Eastern Washington University, including an archive building, a crime lab and a computer science facility.

Ranck-Copher and his wife, Courtney, a professional photographer, exchanged wedding vows 18 months ago.

Highlights of Ranck-Copher’s resume include conducting cadastral surveys in the Cascade Mountains for the U.S. Forest Service, mapping wetlands in northern Idaho, platting developments in eastern Washington and managing ALTA surveys in Seattle and in downtown Portland.

His skills and expertise have been employed as well in the construction of various public projects, such as international airports, state universities and Air Force bases, as well as in commercial ventures, such as shopping malls, apartment complexes and medical facilities.
