EDC announces ‘Launch San Juan Islands’

EDC invites entrepreneurs to participate in a business plan competition, "Launch San Juan Islands." Entrepreneurs can bring their business ideas to the next level in the second annual EDC Launch San Juan Islands business plan competition, created by the San Juan County Economic Development Council and sponsored by local businesses.

New bistro opens

Black Fish Bistro and Martini Bar officially opened Wednesday, Aug. 17, and will feature farm-to-fork and tide-to-table Pacific Northwest cuisine with a rustic French flair. The Bistro seats approximately 40 customers upstairs and downstairs, will be open from 5 -11 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, and is located in the alley off First Street, opposite The Bean. There are plans to open for lunch as soon as more staff are hired. Menu items include local seafood (oysters, clams, mussels, crab, shrimp, salmon, etc.), warm and cold bistro salads, gourmet sandwiches, steak pomme frites, a dessert selection, and more. Local, featured farms include Blue Moon Produce, Jones Family Farms, Mama Bird Farm, Imagine Organics Farm, and others in the future.

Retired OPALCO director Bob Myhr wins public power award

At the 2016 Annual Membership Meeting of the Northwest Public Power Association, Bob Myhr was presented with the Northwest Public Power AssociationLife Member Award. Myhr retired from the OPALCO Board of Directors in 2015 after nearly 30 years of service.

Friday Harbor's Jolly Trolley has begun offering tours of the islands' top tourist attractions in an old-fashioned, authentic trolley.

Nonprofit shuttle service for Friday Harbor

The 'RoundTowner serves Friday Harbor with a non-profit shuttle service for our disabled, elderly and general rural public. Since its inception in August of 2013, the 'RoundTowner has provided over 4,800 rides for island friends and neighbors.
