Stepping Stones moving to former King Typesetting building at 720 Park St.

Stepping Stones is moving from 54 Marguerite Place to the former King Typesetting building at 720 Park St.

Director Bridget Altena said she expects to be in the new location in June. Advantages: It’s newer and freshly remodeled. There will be a toddler room and a preschool room and, eventually, an infant center.

“We wanted to get into something new. We’ve owned Stepping Stones going on five years now and we feel we’re still following in Dean's shadow,” she said of Dean Kinnaman, who founded Stepping Stones and still owns the building.

“Our lease is up and Dean wants to divide the house into apartments, so it’s a good time to start fresh.”

Stepping Stones took a hit during the economic downturn; 30 percent of its families moved off-island.

“It’s been a difficult winter, but spring is getting better.”

Stepping Stones has a toddler program, for ages 1 to 2.5; a preschool program for ages 2.5 to 5; and an after-school program. Coming up this summer: Stepping Stones Camp, with field trips and other activities.
