Warehouse Coffee has a new name: Solid Grounds Coffee Shop.

Solid Grounds is located at 301 Tucker Ave. It is owned by Clinton Mills, who bought it in September from Dwight Ware.

Mills has been trying to make the coffee shop a more viable business, adding karaoke nights and expanding his menu to include burritos and pizzas, as well as fresh barbecued sandwiches on Wednesdays and meatball sandwiches on Fridays.

Another addition: Doughnuts. "We're trying to be the doughnut king," he said. "We get our doughnuts from across the water, but they are really fresh."

Solid Grounds Coffee Shop is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Shortly after Mills bought the business, he applied for a license to sell beer and wine. He said Wednesday he hasn't heard a decision on his application, but that he's not confident he'll get the license because of local opposition. The school district and the San Juan Island Prevention Coalition oppose the license request because of the coffee shop's proximity to the high school.
