Spirit Tree Gifts is closing; offering 'appreciation discounts' on all items

Spirit Tree Gifts on Argyle Avenue is closing, its owner saying the store has "run out of resources" to keep operating.

Spirit Tree's owners described the store as "a multi-dimensional resource center for personal growth and spiritual enlightenment." It sold local clay art, drums, handmade pillows, jewelry, mandalas, music and musical instruments, photography, sculpture, video art and wood art. It also sold books and self-awareness tools, and was a venue for meditation and yoga.

Some 10 artists were represented in the store.

"When we bought Spirit Tree Gifts two years ago, we were honored to be the ones chosen to continue operating the island's resource center for spiritual growth and development," owner Kenneth Atwell wrote in an e-mail. "We are grateful for the many new friends we have made; and for all the travelers whom we have touched and shared the love and light of Spirit with.

"Our space lease for Spirit Tree Gifts expires in December, and we have made the heartfelt decision not to extend our lease here. The leaves have fallen from the Spirit Tree and we have simply run out of resources. It has been a wonderful experience and I don't know how it could possibly get any better than this. I do, however believe in miracles and so I am creating the energy which will be perfect and allow us to move into the next dimension of where Spirit Tree Gifts will grow. As it stands, the revenue does not pay the rent. Any ideas, inspirations, assistance and love will be appreciated."

The store will remain open through Christmas Eve and is offering an appreciation discount of 30 percent off all regular priced items, 15 percent off consignment items, and 60 percent off all purchases over $75.

"We will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.," Atwell wrote. "On Dec. 24, we will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be sharing refreshments and hugs for all who can stop by.

"If you or anyone you know has a gift certificate, please have them bring it in as soon as possible."

Atwell said that he is "saddened" by the store's closing but appreciates the community's "love and support, now and always."

Spirit Tree Gifts is located at 327 Argyle St., Friday Harbor. The phone number is (360) 378-6442. Visit www.spirittreegifts.com.
