Borrow a bicycle to ride around town, for free? How can that be?

Well, it’s because Mikial Denker of Travel Light Cycles is a man on a mission and making pedal power more convenient and user-friendly in his latest philanthropic cause.

“I’m hopeful folks will value this operation and be generous by supporting a more bicycle friendly community and small businesses with promise,” Denker said.

He’d like to see pedal-for-free programs extend to local hotels and bed-and-breakfasts as well.

For now, Travel Light Cycles and the Port of Friday Harbor have joined forces to make mechanically sound bicycles available to visitors and guests; Denker is providing the bikes, the port provides the space; the bicycle rack is equipped with a donation box.

Travel Light CyclesProviding bicycles for free is Denker’s most recent effort to promote greater reliance and use of two-wheel transportation.

Founded in 2009, Travel Light Cycles, headquartered at Surina Business Park, on Malcolm Street, got out of the gate offering quality used and electric bikes, and as a repair service for visitors and locals alike. Denker has since forged a partnership with Pedego Electric Bikes to sell the electric models, and with Susie’s Mopeds for rentals.

Last year, Denker branched out and began offering bicycle rentals as well, through an online partnership with PedalAnywhere.com.

An avid bicyclist and triathlon competitor, Denker also takes a fancy in converting 2-3 wheel vehicles into electric versions of their former selves, and making those available to customers. He has completed nearly a two dozen standard-to-electric conversions and offers several models that Denker identifies and uniquely customized.
