The numbers are in, and the trend is up.

Final employment figures for 2012 — statewide, national and local — will be in the spotlight in a presentation by Dr. Elizabeth Court of the Washington state Employment Security Department Thursday, March 21, 10:30 a.m. to noon, at the Harbor Room of Key Bank's Friday Harbor branch, 95 Second Street.

Sponsored by San Juan County Economic Development Council, the presentation is the latest installment of the EDC's Business Education Series, which also draws support from the town and the port of Friday Harbor, and the Port of Lopez.

Court, a regional labor economist with the state ESD, credentials includes a doctorate in marketing and forest resources from the University of Washington, a master's degree in business administration from Seattle University and a masters degree in marine affairs in port/marine transportation management. Topics to be covered in the presentation include historical employment figures, current trends, commuting patterns and a discussion of local and regional employment, and unemployment, trends.
