CenturyLink faces $173K in fines for November outage

Following an eight-month investigation, staff of the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission cited 15,935 violations of UTC rules and laws governing "major outages" in a report released Tuesday, Aug. 19, and recommend that the commission issue a formal complaint and $173,210 in fines against the company, the single-largest provider of telecomm services in the San Juans.

Whether Island Towing returns next season, either as a shadow of itself, or at all, remains to be seen. But with a 88-5 won-loss record and 10 consecutive league championships, and two off-island tournament titles and one second-place finish, the Towing team carries a record and legacy that speaks for itself.
